I earned my Masters in Literature at George Mason University where I completed my thesis on the cartoon series Over the Garden Wall. I've also worked as a writing tutor/composition instructor, assisting students in shaping their essays to best express their ideas and utilize sources. Currently, I'm working in libraries and do a lot of research work on behalf of patrons on a variety of subjects.
On a personal level, I'm passionate about media and literature analysis, including video games and animation. I spend a lot of time watching video essays on Youtube on these topics...and a lot of time wishing I could help these creators to refine or better organize their ideas. I'm hoping I can partner with some creators who discuss topics I find interesting so I can assist them in crafting videos that are educational, engaging, and easy to follow.
I'm especially good at analyzing and refining written communication, and have even taken on work at my main employer related to improving communication (and rhetoric) used within the organization. I have no doubt that these skills could be applied to the scripts utilized by video essayers. I also have extensive experience with doing research and citing trustworthy sources thanks to my academic and library experience.
I have less in the way of official experience with visuals or video editing, however I have created many flyers and instructional handouts that utilize visuals to convey their points in an effective manner, so I believe I could also assist creators in marrying their scripts to visuals that best express their points.
I'm new to this work, but I consider myself a jack of all trades and am eager to learn new skills as needed. I've taught myself crochet and how to play the ukulele and have then gone on to teach others these skills successfully. If you need me to try something new for you, I'll do so with enthusiasm. Honestly, I might have noticed the need myself and already be on it!
