A native English speaker with a BA in English, I am interested in helping create or improve YouTube content by providing high-quality narration. My work experience uniquely positions me for narrative subjects of a wide variety, as I'm not only familiar with avionics, 'big system' computers, sign language, newspapers, and healthcare, but I already know the vocabulary and phraseology that usually accompany such topics. While I have no formal experience as a narrator, I have been asked to make audio tapes for the deaf, and my friends truly become engrossed when I read various documentation out loud to them. They say my speech is 'eloquent' (their word, not mine), the way I put thoughts and sentences together. Having just watched a YouTube video about a wild horse saving a baby, and finding the poor narration abysmally distracting, I decided to see if the YouTube community would be interested in my narrating ability.
I'm a native English speaker, worked as a newspaper proofreader right out of high school, tested out of English 101 with an 'A' at Penn State, later acquired a BA with honors in English. Grudging credit for my skill at grammar and complex sentence structure also goes to Mom, who often stopped me mid-sentence to remind me of my grammatical indiscretions. Often during my working career I wrote operational manuals and user's guides which my employers used for training others on new procedures or equipment.
My goal is to present information that flows, transitions smoothly between sentences, effortlessly connects thoughts, allows the listener to follow with fascination and without distraction. A good example of this is the YouTube video I recently watched on the Mariana Trench; it was absolutely riveting. With conversation, I create the effect of another person speaking by changing pace, using appropriate pausing and/or changing intonation so the conversation flows naturally in a non-AI way. I learned to do this as a sign language interpreter, when I would change stance, facial expression, etc., to 'become' various characters, as when interpreting a play for children.
I've performed medical transcription now for some 25+ years, the bulk of which is done from home as an independent contractor (think dependability, good work ethic). I have truly appreciated being involved in patient care in this small but very important way, accurately typing providers' dictations. I care very much about people's well-being, wanting to contribute whenever possible to their education, health, perhaps just sheer enjoyment of life and of our beautiful planet.
