YouTube Video Editor (Retention-Focused, Strong Intros Required)
I’m looking for a YouTube editor who understands how to make videos perform — not just someone who can cut clips together.
My content is long-form YouTube videos (lawn transformations / real-world cleanup), and I need someone who knows how to keep viewers watching.
This is NOT a cinematic editing job. This is a retention job.
What I need:
- Build a strong hook/intro from raw footage
- This is the most important part of the job
- You must know how to grab attention in the first 15–30 seconds
- Tease the transformation, create curiosity, and make people want to keep watching
-
Cut for retention
- Remove dead time aggressively
- Keep pacing tight and engaging
- No dragging clips
-
Audio work
- Level audio during loud/quiet parts
- Clean up uneven audio so it sounds consistent throughout
-
Subtitles when needed
- Add subtitles during conversations that are hard to hear
- Keep them clean and easy to read (not overdone)
-
Speed ramps + cuts
- Use sped-up footage where appropriate
- Hard cuts + occasional dissolves (nothing excessive)
-
Storytelling
- Turn raw footage into a clear, engaging story
- Highlight key moments (before/after, reactions, problems, progress)
What I’m looking for:
- Experience editing YouTube videos specifically (not just general video work)
- You understand viewer retention and pacing
- You know how to build intros that hook viewers
- You can take initiative and make editing decisions without needing constant direction
To apply:
- Send 2–3 YouTube videos you’ve edited (not TikToks or reels)
- Briefly explain how you approach building an intro/hook
- Be open to a paid test edit
Notes:
- I will likely test multiple editors and choose one long-term
- Consistency and reliability matter more than flashy edits
- If you don’t understand YouTube pacing and intros, this won’t be a good fit
Looking for someone long-term if it’s a good fit.
